Discovering damp in your home or any other property can be a worry, especially if you don’t know exactly what it is and how to treat it.
Don’t panic – help is at hand. You just need to take things step by step. First you need to identify what kind of damp you're dealing with. A misdiagnosis could cost you more in the long run, so it's always worth getting a specialist diagnosis.
Guardian Preservation is an award-winning family business with a solid reputation for our expertise in damp proofing, basement waterproofing & conversions, condensation & mould treatment, dry rot & timber treatment, flood prevention & remedy and structural waterproofing. We will give you honest and accurate information – helping you to identify what kind of damp problem you have, how much it will cost to fix and how long any work or treatment will take.
Does YOUR damp PROBLEM
look like this?
Condensation (high humidity) is one of the most common forms of damp. It can cause a musty smell, excess moisture on windows and black mould on walls and/or ceilings.
High humidity can be relatively easy and economical to fix – and involves finding an ideal balance of heating and ventilation.
Rising Damp can be a sign that your home's existing damp proof course is damaged or may be missing altogether.
Some of the signs of rising damp include decayed skirting boards and timber floors. Plaster may be crumbling, discoloured and stained. Or you may have paint and wallpaper peeling off the walls.
Penetrating damp can be caused when rainwater enters the fabric of a building and starts to create unwanted damage.
Common signs to look out for include cracked rendering, crumbled roof pointing, faulty lead work and general wear and tear on the outside of your property.
