FLOOD PREVENTION AND REMEDY

GET BACK INTO YOUR HOME QUICKER AFTER A FLOOD

‘Flooding is the most common and widespread natural disaster in the UK,’ according to the Environment Agency. Since 1998, the UK has experienced at least one major flood every year. Each year and each flood causes its own disruption. During a flood, many families (and their pets) are forced to seek refuge upstairs, or abandon their home altogether.

As an award-winning flood remediation company our work gets people back into their homes as soon as possible after a flood. We also design flood prevention schemes to stop people's homes from flooding in the first place.

We can’t stop heavy rainfall and flooding – but we can keep you and your home dry during a flood.

The Gloucestershire Floods

of 2007

Do you remember the devastating floods in Gloucestershire during 2007? Over 4,000 homes and 500 businesses across the county were affected when the rain began to fall on Friday the 20th of July and kept on falling and falling.

Seeing flooding of this magnitude in our home county led us to implement an innovative new approach to repairing flooded properties.

This work earned us first place at the Property Care Association (PCA) Awards Ceremony 2009.

Flood repair work was costly, disruptive

and carried out by unskilled people

Back then it was standard practice to strip a property and install drying equipment for up to six months after a flood. This was expensive for the insurers and caused the already devastated owners more heartache when they were forced into temporary accommodation with no idea of when they could return home.

Many of the flood damaged homes suffered further damage when non-specialist contractors, incorrectly monitoring the damp, used the wrong materials to fix it. This wreaked havoc with internal timbers and caused further delay and spiralling costs.

WHAT WE DID

Our ‘a-ha’ moment came when we realised the cavity drain membrane system we'd been using to combat damp in buildings could be used in flooded properties.
We got to work fitting the membrane straightaway. This allowed the walls to dry naturally on the ‘wet side’ of the membrane and meant the re-plastering and decorating work could start immediately.

Not having to remove floor and wall finishes saved time and money too. We also installed sumps, pumps and drainage systems in homes to protect them from further flooding.

OVERNIGHT SUCCESS

The householders and insurance companies we worked with loved our innovative new approach. Families were getting their homes back in a matter of weeks, rather than months. The insurance companies saved thousands of pounds in temporary accommodation costs and insurance claims for bad workmanship stopped overnight.

What NeXT?

WHAT to do if your property floods

Speak with us about getting back into your home quickly. Please get in touch, that’s the first step. Once that's done we can chat about how to build your home’s resilience against future flooding too.

As founder members of the PCA Flood Remediation Group we’re fully qualified to give you advice and guidance on how to dry your home out and prevent further decay following a flood. The PCA promotes best practice for reducing the time between your home flooding and you moving back in through its Code of Practice for the Recovery of Flood Damaged Buildings.
