DRY/ WET Rot and Timber TREATMENT
Woodworm
Given the right conditions, wood boring beetles can infest a wide variety of timbers. These can include structural building timbers, skirting boards, architraves and general joinery. Left unchecked, infestations can cause severe structural weakening and irreparable damage.
WHAT CAUSES
WOODWORM?
Adult beetles emerge from timber in the spring and summer. Very soon after mating, the female beetle lays around 30 eggs into the cracks and crevices of the timber she’s just left. A month or so later the eggs hatch and the larvae begin to burrow into the timber. They remain here for two to four years, slowly eating and burrowing beneath the surface of the wood. Eventually, the mature lava creates a pupation chamber just beneath the surface of the wood. Following pupation, the adult beetle cuts a hole into the timber’s surface and emerges to start the process all over again. Any new holes and dust (frass) falling from them that appears, often indicates the presence of an active woodworm infestation.
