We are thrilled at Guardian to have adopted the newly launched qualification - The Certificated Surveyor of Timber and Dampness in Buildings  (CSTDB), which has been introduced by the Property Care Association (PCA) this year.

The CSRT qualification has been updated to CSTDB through an external accreditation process and this new qualification is being awarded by ABBE – the Awarding Body for the Built Environment.

The good news for our clients is that all surveyors holding this new qualification are committed to continually improving their knowledge and understanding of this industry and will be reviewed by the PCA annually.

The PCA’s Certificated Surveyor of Timber and Dampness in Buildings (CSTDB) qualification will be awarded in place of the Certificated Surveyor in Remedial Treatments (CSRT) qualification, which will continue to be recognised, supported and promoted by the association.

10 years since the floods of 2007 in Gloucestershire

Following the floods of 2007 it became clear that the typical procedure for the repair of flood damaged properties was not always the most appropriate method and often resulted in householders being re-housed in temporary accommodation for unnecessarily long periods. The standard method of repair was to strip out the properties and install drying equipment, sometimes for periods in excess of six months.

This process was often carried out without the correct monitoring and sometimes resulted in permanent damage, particularly to internal timbers. Non specialist contractors were then employed to carry out remedial works, frequently using inappropriate materials, resulting in further delays and often the work has had to be repaired at a later date and at a further cost. Guardian came up with an innovative approach to this challenge [read more]
